HAVING A YARN WITH... Jade Jillings
SUPER COOL looks a massive chance of taking out the Dato Tan chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley this week. Racingnuts.com.au had the opportunity to catch up with his strapper Jade Jillings and find out a little more about this superstar racehorse. Good Luck on the weekend and the future to Jade and the team!
RN: How long have you been involved in the racing industry?
JJ: All my life. It's all I've ever known.
How did you originally get involved with racing?
My dad - Erin Jillings, my mum - Suzanne Gordon and the whole family are involved. I lived in Japan for 5 years with Dad and my stepmum Kelly (who was also a jockey) and we had 70 horse's in work all year round. I was only young at the time and still went to school but it was a great experience.
How long have you been in Australia and How did you end up working for Mark Kavanagh?
I moved to Melbourne on the 28th of April 2011 and started at Kav's on the 1st of May.
What was the name of the first winner you strapped and where did it race?
My first winner was a horse called WEWANTITI for Mike Breslin at Awapuni.
What did you think of SUPER COOL when you first saw him?
I got SUPER COOL from day 1. He was just the FASTNET ROCK x QUEEN MOTHER to us. He was a funny looking boy with his big pink/white eye but he was a "dude" to do anything with. As a baby he use to dribble all the time but I loved him, we just got along straight away.
Can you name the 3 most promising horse's coming out of the stable?
We have some real nice young ones but probably KINGDOM OF DREAMS, ZA MOULIN ROUGE and our FASTNET ROCK × GAMBIE filly.
SUPER COOL has just won the Group 1 Australian Cup, How were you feeling?
I was overwhelmed. It took a while actually sink in. It wasn't until I watched it over and over again, then I cried. It was amazing, something I'd always dreamt of was strapping a Group 1 winner and "Super" smashed them. It's pretty cool. I've got his rug, bib and Michael (owner)gave me his cup!
Highlight wins of your career so far?
Definitley all my moments with SUPER COOL. I never thought I'd have anything to do with a horse like him. He is a special horse to me. Wellington Guineas day, I strapped 4 winners which included HOORANG (NZ Cup winner), SKIRMISH which paid $36 and came right down the outside and YANNA MARIE (my first strap for Dummey Myers). Also worked with a horse called BUTCH JAMES and the Bull family who are the nicest people you could meet.
Apart from Michael Rodd (stable jockey), who are the best jockeys you have seen in NZ and Australia?
There would be a few Damian Oliver, James MacDonald, Michael Walker and Opie Bosson.
What do you see yourself doing in 10 years time?
Hopefully training. Maybe a partnership with my Mum who's training a few winners now with her small team. I dont really know where I'll be but I would like to do a stint in Dubai for few months and learn wherever I go.
